In this month’s newsletter you’ll find new insights, upcoming learning opportunities, and the latest PICO Portal updates designed to support faster, more rigorous evidence synthesis.

PICO Portal Updates

On February 11th, we launched ScholarIQ, a transparent AI-powered research discovery platform designed to accelerate literature exploration, screening, and evidence extraction.

Built to support the discovery phase of evidence synthesis, ScholarIQ provides a dynamic yet traceable workspace where teams can search, screen, review full text, extract data, and generate PRISMA 2020–ready documentation all within a single connected environment.

From initial search through structured, synthesis-ready outputs, ScholarIQ helps move evidence work forward while keeping documentation transparent and defensible.

ScholarIQ is available with a free trial for those who would like to explore it directly. Learn more here.

Learning Opportunities

Join us on Thursday, March 12 at 11 AM Eastern Time for a webinar titled From Tools to Governance: How to Compliantly Approach Tech-Enabled Research. As AI adoption matures, attention is moving from experimentation to responsibility. The session will explore key governance questions, including when and where AI should be used, how AI-assisted work should be reported, and what boundaries are appropriate for screening, extraction, and writing.

We will also examine the evolving role of libraries as stewards, not just service providers, including workload pressure points, decisions about when to say no, approaches to charging for evidence synthesis services, and equity challenges across disciplines with uneven access to funding.

Registration details will be shared soon.

Industry Trends

AI platforms for evidence synthesis are rapidly expanding beyond point solutions, such as screening, into near end-to-end review workflows. Often described as “deep review” engines, these tools take natural-language questions, search across scholarly indexes, filter for relevance, extract key variables, and generate citation-backed summaries.

As automation becomes more comprehensive, the conversation is shifting from technical capability to questions of transparency, validation, and the continued role of human judgment in maintaining defensible evidence workflows.
