When conducting a literature search for their recent publication, “Complementary Feeding Interventions for Infants and Young Children Under Age 2: Scoping of Promising Interventions to Implement at the Community or State Level,” the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) yielded 63,844 citation results.
They leveraged PICO Portal’s software to quickly identify and de-duplicate 16,520 of those articles. But to screen each of the remaining 47,324 titles/abstracts twice, as they were following a dual-review methodology, seemed like it was going to be a daunting task.
The NAS called on PICO Portal PLUS+ to assist with their review, drawing on our experienced methodologists to conduct an initial screen of each citation – instantly cutting their existing workload in half. They were also able to leverage PICO Portal’s machine learning prediction model to identify when a 99% recall rate was reached, drastically reducing the project timeline.
The result? The NAS and PICO Portal PLUS+ were able to capture the resulting 185 eligible citations in a matter of weeks, allowing the project to be completed on-time and under budget.
